JGM campus: Tips for new students

This first post is dedicated to the students, from this university, that go to Juan Gómez Millas campus. My idea is that the students in first years from his career can be, in this blog, find information that can help them and do his stay in the campus easier.

Here, they can find a lot of information about places where eat, study, enjoy, rest or just meet. Also, information related from university administration and important dates as enrollment, registration of courses and holidays.

My name is Claudia Rivera and I am studying Journalism in the Universidad de Chile since four years ago in Juan Gómez Millas campus. When I arrived here, in the 2014, there was not any information that guides me and my classmates. So, in the first months of the career was complicated for me because I did not live in Santiago and I did not know much things that happened here.

Since this first year until today, the social networks have been a great help for me and my university friends. Now, the students can do “community” whit his university companions. Pages on Facebook of your Student Center, DAE or your career and faculty, can guide you if you need information from de university administration.

On the other hand, if you want know more about university life outside classroom, you can visit groups on Facebook as “Comunidad JGM” and diffusion groups from your faculty or institute. In this groups, the members always are posting contents about events in the campus, reunions and parties.

Somethings, even, the students post information of rooms to rent near the university and tips for students that live alone. If you don’t find what you looking for, you can ask your doubts to the community and they answer you, almost always, in a short time.

Now, if you are in first year of university and you want know how does work this new world, is important that you go to class frequently. When you miss classes, you lose the opportunity to meet new people and the possibility that ask your question to upper classmates to you.

My advice is that you don’t afraid to ask about you don’t know. There will always someone ready for help you. But, if you don’t encourage to ask, always is the option of exploring and discovering for yourself the campus. Just need a little time and a good sneaker!

  1. The communities that are created in the digital networks are very useful for the students, because it helps us to be well informed about what happens in the university, the campus and also in our institute or faculty :D
